AWS A5.27 Classification
AWS A5.27 is a specification set by the American Welding Society (AWS) for Carbon Steel Electrodes and Rods for Gas Shielded Arc Welding. This specification outlines requirements for classifying solid and composite carbon steel electrodes and rods used in gas shielded arc welding, whether with or without external gas shielding.
The classification of electrodes and rods is based on their chemical composition. AWS A5.27 covers various aspects including scope, classification criteria, acceptance standards, certification requirements, units of measure, rounding procedures, summary of tests, retesting protocols, weld test assemblies, chemical analysis methods, manufacturing processes, standard sizes and shapes, surface finish and uniformity, standard packaging forms, winding requirements, and filler metal identification.
